All Hands on Deck!Teaching Students to Connect with Their Community
Our All Hands On Deck program provides children opportunities to learn about social responsibility at a young age. At Kids Harbor, we understand the importance of teaching children about giving to others of their time, talents, and even financially.
We offer a variety of opportunities for our children to engage with the community. For instance, at Christmas, we took some of our students to visit a senior center. There they were able to visit with seniors and brighten their holiday by singing Christmas carols.
Meeting Other Community Helpers
Throughout the year, we invite many different members of our community that work in public service. This allows our students to understand all that’s involved in running and supporting a community and learning about new jobs they may have never even thought about!
We’ve had guests such as: fire fighters, police officers, waste management workers and medical personnel. Our kids love meeting new community helpers.
Supporting the Community
Our kids love supporting their community by doing good deeds for others. Some of their favorites are:
- The children donated pocket change to Coins for a Cure to help cure childhood cancer in honor of one of their fellow students, Callie.
- For Tripp’s Trot 5K, Kids Harbor sponsored and participated in this local event at the Gwinnett Braves stadium to raise funds for Tripp Halstead, who was injured by a falling tree limb while at another day care center.
- The local Animal Shelter where our students donated pet food and treats and our school age children took a field trip to the local animal shelter to deliver the donations over spring break.
Our most recent partnership is with the Gwinnett Children’s Shelter to help single mothers learn the skills that they need to provide for their children. Support will come in the form of donations, monetary support, and projects on their campus. We recently collected linens for the upcoming opening of their new wing!
